
As a DeLeT Fellow, you will:
- Participate in a 13-month full-time teacher preparation program that fosters teaching excellence in Jewish day schools in North America
- Spend one year in a mentored internship in a Jewish day school in Los Angeles or the San Francisco Bay Area
- Infuse classroom life with Jewish and American values
- Develop inquiry-driven ways of thinking critically
- Gain insight into working with children and their families
- Engage in intensive summer and retreat sessions
- Attend Thursday classes at the Rhea Hirsch School of Education in Los Angeles or by video-conference from the San Francisco area
- Fulfill all of the requirements for a California Preliminary Subject Teaching Credential, which is reciprocal in the other 49 states
As a DeLeT Fellow, you will receive a free-tuition scholarship,
a $20,000 stipend, and health insurance for nine months of
the school year. As of June 2010, HUC-JIR’s DeLeT program,
along with its companion program at Brandeis
University, has prepared over 100 day school teachers with
this innovative vision.
