This text study explores when speech can become harmful using texts from the Babylonian Talmud (Arakhin 15b-16a), the Bible (Leviticus 19:16, Psalms 34:13-14), and from two modern sources (“Words that Hurt, Words that Heal” by Joseph Telushkin and “Guard Your Tongue” by Zelig Pliskin). This text study would be appropriate for a wide range of audiences, but the discussion questions are geared specifically for a task force about to begin the process of education innovation.
