The ECE Adaptation Continuum: Exercise

This exercise is meant for task force members to complete before they meet. Members are asked to consider the metaphor of deciding to buy a new home and to consider the process by which a person/family would go about making such a change. The task force is also introduced to the idea of the “adaptation continuum,” the range of forms that change can take, from making minor modifications, mixing and matching various models, and designing a new model. After reading the metaphor and accompanying commentary, participants are asked to answer the following questions:
When in my life did I know I needed to change or adapt something?
How did I know that it was time to make a change?
How did I know what to change to?
Where was the change that I made on the adaptation continuum?
What were the challenges I faced and what was made easier because of where I chose to be on the adaptation continuum?
In what ways was I successful in making my change?
