Three Talks on Shared Leadership

These transcripts are from a panel entitled, “Shared Leadership in Action,” from the December 1999 UAHC Biennial in Orlando. The panel consisted of three members of ECE congregations: Daryl Messinger, of Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos Hills, California; Suzi Greenman, of Temple Emanu‑El in Dallas; and Rabbi David Stern, also of Temple Emanu‑El in Dallas. Messinger discusses the highlights and challenges of shared leadership in the hope of achieving congregational goals. Greenman explores shared leadership by examining change in rabbinic practices at Temple Emanuel. Rabbi David Stern uses several examples to define shared leadership (1) between rabbi and lay person and (2) between lay leaders generally.
